What’s going on at Birth a Miracle Services this summer?!

We are half way through 2011 and so far it has been a great year for Birth a Miracle Services. For my New Year’s resolution I set a goal of six doula clients this year. Not only was I recently contacted by possibly my sixth client, but I have also taught childbirth classes and given some prenatal care.

My reputation has grown to the point that I have not had to advertise my services. This is a very exciting professional stage to be in, especially since I have been practicing for nearly nine years as a birth doula.

Adding a little twist to the mix, I just found out I am expecting my fourth child! As with my other pregnancies I will continue to assist women through birth until the last few weeks before I am due, and plan to resume my work as a doula within a few months after my birth, which will be some time in March 2012.

This time around though, I have recognized that I will need to reduce my workload outside of my home. For this reason I will be limiting my scope of practice next year to being a doula and writing this blog.

Some of you may know that I am also a student of midwifery, combining self-study with apprenticeship as the opportunity arises. Because I know I need to spend my energy on my growing family, I feel I need to set this goal aside for a while. Midwifery is still in my future, but until my children are ready and a door opens for my education, becoming a midwife is not something I should be focusing on. This decision was very difficult for me to make, but in the meantime I will continue to serve women as a birth doula.

For yet more exciting news, Birth a Miracle Services will have a booth at the second annual Women’s Health Fair in Oxford, Maine. This year the event will take place at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School on Saturday, October 15, 2011. This year’s fair is still in the early stages of planning by Carley Packard of Richard Bader Physical Therapy, but I will keep you updated as the date draws closer. In the meantime, you can read about last year’s fair here.

Here’s to a successful second half of 2011!
