October 6, 2009 -
I am a young mother of two children, Nemo, who is almost 3 years old and Daphney who is 1 year old, and happily married to Glen for almost five years. We are now expecting our third child, due February 28, 2010, and planning our second home birth with him or her.
I have been passionately serving women in birth for almost seven years, starting as a midwife’s assistant. I was trained and certified as a birth doula in 2002 by Hope House, Inc., a single mom and pregnancy support center in Lewiston, Maine. I also attended a Doulas of North America training program in 2006. I currently attend women at home and in four different local hospitals as a doula, but I am also planning to become a home birth midwife.
As of this date I have attended 18 births. Several of these were planned home births with trained midwives. Others were natural births in the hospital, and still others used pain medications. Five ended in cesarean sections for reasons including failure to progress after induction and fetal distress.

Naomi!
I am so impressed! It is wonderful that you, and all your wisdom and information, are available to moms now! Although I had wonderful homebirths, I had never heard of a doula. Anything that takes the control of birthing and puts it back in the hands and bodies of the mommas and paps has my support. Thank you for the great website, it will be passed on.
Bless you!
