About Naomi

October 6, 2009 -
I am a young mother of two children, Nemo, who is almost 3 years old and Daphney who is 1 year old, and happily married to Glen for almost five years. We are now expecting our third child, due February 28, 2010, and planning our second home birth with him or her.

I have been passionately serving women in birth for almost seven years, starting as a midwife’s assistant. I was trained and certified as a birth doula in 2002 by Hope House, Inc., a single mom and pregnancy support center in Lewiston, Maine. I also attended a Doulas of North America training program in 2006. I currently attend women at home and in four different local hospitals as a doula, but I am also planning to become a home birth midwife.

As of this date I have attended 18 births. Several of these were planned home births with trained midwives. Others were natural births in the hospital, and still others used pain medications. Five ended in cesarean sections for reasons including failure to progress after induction and fetal distress.

If you hire me as your doula, this is what you will receive:

  • Four prenatal visits to assess your needs and desires for birth, define and understand our expectations of one another, and provide you with useful tools for labor and birth. We can cover the basics of what to expect from childbirth, and if you are interested, we can also do some birth art therapy to build your inner resources for birth.
  • Birth plan assistance to help you clarify your preferences for birth and explain the options that are available to you
  • Access to my lending library of books and videos about pregnancy, birth and baby care, to support your learning
  • Continuous physical, emotional, and informational support for you and your partner for the duration of labor and birth, to help the you hold and move towards the vision you created for your baby’s birth
  • Initial breastfeeding support immediately after birth to help your baby latch on properly and encourage the establishment of breastfeeding
  • Two postpartum follow-up visit to celebrate the birth of your baby, to answer any questions you have during the early postpartum period, and to process your birth experience
  • Unlimited phone and e-mail support to answer your questions and offer suggestions and support throughout pregnancy and early labor

    1. Naomi!
I am so impressed! It is wonderful that you, and all your wisdom and information, are available to moms now! Although I had wonderful homebirths, I had never heard of a doula. Anything that takes the control of birthing and puts it back in the hands and bodies of the mommas and paps has my support. Thank you for the great website, it will be passed on.
      Bless you!
